G-APSA update, Sunday 28 Jan.,
Discussions are moving toward the outcome I think we all hope for...a bit of Eagle Airways back home to Blackbushe - permanently. Definite news may be expected this week, but be assured we have held the breakers at bay. Too early to say more, but we have allocated what look likes a good initial parking spot at Blackbushe - just in case it's needed by a "Great Aeroplane Possibly Soon Arriving". If you see what I mean!
For now it's work in progress, no promises, but increasing hope for a deal soon.
I'm away for a couple of days.... stay tuned! PB

Rob, Pray tell who informed you, and exactly what did they say?? Who is contracted to move the aircraft?? At the moment all I can say is that investors are in the loop with regard to the aircraft's future, and no movement anticipated in the near future. The only sure thing, so far as I'm aware, is that the breakers arrive mid February. They'll move it!! As mentioned previously we have secured a stay of execution, otherwise she might have been chopped up far sooner.. The investment necessary to fly her out of Coventry is vast, engine overhauls, corrosion, but no harm in trying..If we have to break her for transport, or if anybody else does, she will never fly again. DC-6 was built in such a way that she'd have to broken literally to dismantle her.
Believe me, the current activity is focused on flying her...a long shot, but worth a try.
If you could advise soonest on anything you've heard it might be in the aircraft's interest...
Tks PB

The latest news on G-APSA, as of today, is that we are talking with a prospective investor.
The favourite development would see us flying the aircraft to a new home, Blackbushe being the logical destination. However, time has played its hand and corrosion would seem to be a stumbling block, one of the three main spars being on the sick list in that regard. All four engines would have to be removed and shipped to the USA for overhaul. That's a six week transition, cost around £50,000. Corrosion repairs are still to be assessed, but I think the most likely outcome is that the aircraft is dismantled and returns to Blackbushe by road. The DC-6 is constructed around the main spar/centre section. Separation of the aircraft components would be terminal so far as future flight is concerned. Nothing is final or near to a conclusion, but just wanted to let anyone interested know that we are still working on possible ways of saving a precious part of Blackbushe's commercial past...
As a static attraction there are various ways we can make her of value to the Airport. Further updates will follow, the content of which remains to be decided...

I suggest that £50k for engine work is out of the question if it's going to sit around at Blackbushe for ever more. Remember the aircraft at that "museum" at Lasham? Even if the DC6 just sat there would it till require maintenance?
<<ways of saving a precious part of Blackbushe's commercial past...>> To be serious, is it worth it? Blackbushe is far removed from what it was all those years ago. It's just a pretty small airfield with clockwork mice and the odd biz jet.

Well, there's one point of view! Could I ask if anybody else shares that opinion?? A lot of effort - and thought - is being used behind the scenes to try and save the aeroplane, but if there is a similar feeling from our learned members we might as well forget the deal. The breakers can have their metal feast, and those of us who care can take the rest of the day off............
The question of engine overhaul would only be relevant if we were to fly her on a regular basis. Obviously, such money would not be spent for a ferry flight to wherever if the aicraft was going to be a museum piece. A one-off ferry flight depends on inspection and approval from the CAA. If it was not for the breakage time limits this current interest would not be bubbling, time is running out fast.
Be interested to hear the opinion from our members TODAY as time is precious. Do you think G-APSA should be saved, or would you rather she was turned into a heap of scrap in two weeks from now?
Do let us know!!

Peter i personally would love to see G-APSA returned to Blackbushe whether it be a flying example or just gate guard. If money wasn't a problem then a flying example would be absolutely incredible especially based at Blackbushe. A gate guard might attract a bit more interest to the airfield with spotters, but more importantly passers by on the A30. Tours given by volunteers ? Might be worth making a post on the Yateley community Facebook page to see if there'd be much local interest. My little boy is very excited at the prospect of seeing a DC6 not far from him, we've been sitting for the past few nights going through your photo of the day posts and Facebook posts.

Peter
I’ve been a member and lurker since this board started up, but this topic is moving me to post for the first time in a couple of years! I would LOVE to see you succeed and bring G-APSA back to Blackbushe.
I’ll be honest- I’d be amazed to see it fly again, but if you can save her for preservation that would still be wonderful!
I cannot believe controller’s post- does an “enthusiast” really think that way? Is it worth it? Looking at things in such a bleak way, is it ever worth preserving anything ?!!
Yes it’s definitely worth it to save the aircraft, and yes it’s definitely worth it as a way of preserving a bit of Blackbushe’s history!
I wish you all the best Peter, and hope to see the DC.6 at Blackbushe soon(ish)!
