The 3.5l V8 engine fitted to both the MG-B and the Rover series of saloons was derived from a Buick engine built originally in the USA. My 'pash' was the smaller Dodge built 2.5l V-8 fitted to Daimler cars including the Dart/SP250 sports car. I never drove either but always enjoyed the healthy throb of a V-8. I did however 'experience' V-8 engines when I was driving glider towing winches at the Air Cadet gliding school at Halton where we had couple of ex-wartime barrage balloon winches powered by sidevalve Ford V-8s of about 4.2l to supplement the twin drum Bedford winches. These single drum winches were very old and often developed holes in the exhaust systems so as you pulled the glider off the ground you got the glorious sound of the V-8 engine.
