Another non EGLK fact PB: light travels at approx 186,000 miles per second, give or take a black hole or two. Absolutely right, not sure what happened this morning but indeed I intended to say just that. Black holes are a matter of some gravity and hungry for passing photons... Thank you for your correction, my face is as red as Mars!!

The overhead shot of EGLK revealed much. The USN facility looks some distance away indicating the size of the original airport. The south provides one licence to imagine, the north? Ay dios mío, no imagination necessary, not impressed!

You are so right regarding 'LK today vv 'LK prior to 30 May 1960. It will always give me pain seeing the so important east end lost for all time under an overgrown canopy of nature's endeavours to support the old parish council. BB South still offers ghostly images of long gone taxiways and hangar locations, the north side - well it's still there but seeing those runways used for four legged Fidos is better than grieving over their absence had they been excavated as was once the plan.....
The miracle is that an airfield called Blackbushe still exists today even if in a reduced form...

AVM Bennet had a nissen hut labelled 'Fairthorpe' on the detached part of Denham airfield (indeed it may even have said 'Fairthorpe Cars'); it was on the section to the right as you walked up Denham Green Lane and became 'Tilehouse Lane'. I always wondered if this bit of grass was originally part of the airfield because it appeared to be a continuation of the grassed area. I'm not sure if he also had another place at Gerrards Cross (where he built the Linnets) which was nearby.
I recall Stuart Marshall 'temporarily' leaving Blackbushe to work at Fairoaks during the period 1977 to 1984 after which he was 'headhunted' back by BCA. I remember DA 'broadcasting' his departure loudly while he was sitting in the original cafe which was at the base of the control tower/terminal. 'Oudja finks the noo depitty airport manager at Fairoaks then' he proclaimed to all who were listening, this being during the '77 Air Festival where I did the ATC (FISOs hadn't been invented then) along with Reg and 2 others (Mary and Julian). I used to visit both airfields frequently so I met Reg and Stuart many times, Stuart having worked at Fairoaks originally when Doug owned it before 1973.

I got myself on a gliding course at the Air Cadet gliding school at RAF Halton at the age of 16 and instead of just getting my A & B Certificates, stayed on, working most weekends (I was still at school) and in return getting one or two flights (each lasting between 3 and 5 minutes) at the end of the day in reward. By my 19th birthday I had amassed over 500 flights, the majority being taking other younger cadets on air experience flights.

Great days chevvron. The future looks good for EGLK. Halton, I think, is due for closure in 2027 for a property development. I won't get into politics, but I am not a happy bunny!

The main camp area of RAF Halton where the re-developement is proposed is scheduled to close at end 2027 but the future of the airfield a mile to the north west is not clear. Local councils wish it to continue as an airfield as do I and other individuals.
