Great days chevvron. The future looks good for EGLK. Halton, I think, is due for closure in 2027 for a property development. I won't get into politics, but I am not a happy bunny! The main camp area of RAF Halton where the re-developement is proposed is scheduled to close at end 2027 but the future of the airfield a mile to the north west is not clear. Local councils wish it to continue as an airfield as do I and other individuals. Rings a bell!

<I found a fascinating method of tracking lightning yesterday and easily followed 'our' storm as it flashed its way across country.. map.blitzortung.org/#2.12/34.3/11.48 Hope it works for you, seemingly global lightning almost as it happens...>
Thanks for the link PB, very useful indeed.

!5 Oct Under the wing of the Lysander and in front of the Comet was the Aeromart building; I wonder did it contain the delectable 'Jane'? In the tower at Fairoaks in about 2016, a chap walked in and casually mentioned 'my father used to own this airport'. Obviously he was Doug's son (were there one or two of them?) and this one said he was on a visit to the UK as he 'managed' an aircraft museum in the USA and was 'on the lookout' for exhibits.

Aeromart's office may well have included Jane, it often did! Except the building you see under the Lysander's wing is not Aeromart, it's the Airport's 'operations' room - occupied by HMC & Excise during Farnborough Week long long ago. Aeromart's office was on this side of the apron access road visible in the photo and consequently out of shot.. Doug Arnold had two sons, David and Peter. I wonder which one visited Fairoaks in 2016? Sounds like he is still well entrenched in the warbird scene, they both were very involved during the DA days at Blackbushe.

I think he said he was David. I know one of them used to ride a motorbike after dark among the parked aircraft outside when we had a drink on friday nights in 3 Counties.

Particularly enjoyed today's POTD – being c 6 ½ in August ’61, I wasn’t aware of the 28 day rule and its impact, nor of what rare days those flying days that I was taken to were (indeed, it’s the first time I’ve even heard of that rule existing).

Great news about the Mosquito. I was present in 1963 for a whole day during filming at Bovingdon for 633 Squadron and living only 2 or 3 miles away I could see and hear a lot of the flying. On the day I was there, I sat in the terminal building as Donald Houston walked past saying 'good morning' with a newspaper tucked under his arm; I wonder where he was going?

Sorry but I posted some remarks on this page about Halifax's and somehow it came up on the page for the Telegraph Air Day.
