By Timothy, I haven't heard Holy mackerel in a while. G-ALIH was definitely dressed for business in its Ekco days. As far as the UK register is concerned LIH was pwfu 9 May 1968. Pity.

re the 28th; not a bad photo of Farnborough either. I dare say airshow preparations are well in hand.

A SV-7 Skyvan G-FARA, out of Shobdon, has just flown over Bristol. An Air Day possibility?

The RAF operated 'budgies' were often at Farnborough during the '90s (I think they visited about once a month and lived at Oxford) until the Para Battalion moved from Aldershot to Colchester; they're rarely seen in the south east nowadays. The RAF Parachute Training Sqdn which does the initial para training for all the armed services is based at Brize hence the civilian operated aircraft are based there too. NB Being civilian contractors I'm guessing they will only operate weekdays so it's unlikely they'll send one for the Air Day.

Losing your ability to smell anything can have its advantages!!
Yes, indeed!

Crikey! I thought I'd seen a ghost in the upper pic today.
The lower pic shows a fair amount of EGLK south of the A30. A few more shots in different light conditions might reveal further pleasant spectres of the past.
I take my hat off to the planners and brave people involved in D Day. No computers as we know them today; just the old noddle. A momentous and very significant achievement.

I happened to be in Chepstow yesterday so attended the town's moving D Day 80th anniversary event.
I stayed to the end!
