I had the pleasure of flying in two Ansons from Bovingdon back in 1963, VL337 and PH859. During the weekday summer holidays there were always several ATC Cadets there from my own squadron (Chesham) and the surrounding ones (Berkhamstead, Hemel Hempstead, Watford, Tring) hoping to scrounge flights.

I vividly recall an Anson doing survey work over Merton c1964, right over our house, in fact. Took it for granted!

A very dystopian 'brown field' pic today PB.
The stock letter from the 'Petitions Team'can be read in so many ways that it universally cheers all points of view. It is typical civil service placatory mumbo jumbo

....and another stock email from the 'P team'. We've been robbed! Good old Rubovia. You recently signed the petition: Reclassify general aviation airfields as greenfield not brownfield sites petition.parliament.uk/petitions/660502Because of the General Election, the closing date for the petition you signed has changed. All petitions now have to close at 00:01am on 30 May. This is because Parliament will be dissolved, which means all parliamentary business – including petitions – must stop. This means the petitions site will be closed and people will not be able to start or sign petitions. We’re sorry we weren’t able to give you more notice that this would happen. The petition will be available for people to read on the site even though it will be closed for signatures. This petition won’t be reopened after the election. The Government can’t respond to petitions during the election period. This means if the petition has over 10,000 signatures, it can’t receive a response from the current Government after 29 May. After the election, the new Government will have to decide whether to respond to petitions from before the election. The current Petitions Committee, the group of MPs who decide whether petitions are debated, won’t exist after 30 May. This means that if the petition has over 100,000 signatures, it can’t be scheduled for debate during this Parliament. After the election, a new Petitions Committee will be responsible for deciding which petitions are debated. The petitions site will reopen when a new Petitions Committee is appointed, but at the moment we don’t know exactly when. You can follow us on X (formerly Twitter) @hocpetitions for updates, or check back on the petitions site for news. You can find out more about what the General Election means for your petitions on our website: committees.parliament.uk/committee/326/petitions-committee/news/201677/your-petitions-and-the-2024-general-election-faqs/Ahead of the General Election on 4 July, make sure you’re registered to vote. You can check whether you’re eligible to vote and find out how to register at: www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. The deadline to register to vote is Tuesday 18 June. Many thanks, The Petitions team UK Government and Parliament

Where is that FIDO film? There must be at least one extant. What the guys endured in Stuart's unpublished - but should be - work is beyond scary.
I notice that the PM in prorogue wants the return of National Service (or work in the community a la La Belle) for eighteen year olds - not necessarily something the armed forces want. The opposition is thinking about reducing the voting age to 16. My head hurts!
Flying can a dangerous game. RIP BBMF pilot.

Great idea but a non starter; all our armed forces personnel are already fully utilised/short of staff so who's gonna train loads of new inexperienced people?

With a little imagination one can picture G-ALIH testing the approach calibration.

With a little imagination one can picture G-ALIH testing the approach calibration. Holy mackerel, I was 16 when I flew in the right hand seat of G-ALIH.... one of those memories that the scant remaining brain cells recall with ease - 1962 and Blackbushe looked vast and undamaged when viewed from the air.. The Black Arrows were in the air from Farnborough with their huge Hunter formation and it was a little murky. Eyes open!!
