The dates are settled, July 1st & 2nd for our "Festival of Flight"....the 75th Anniversary salute to Blackbushe, a celebration of her past, her survival and her future.
There is much work going around the 'drawing board' to see a weekend next July that will truly give the old airfield what she deserves. I just wanted to pass on the dates for now, much more info will be added in due course.
The intention is to reflect the many aspects of Blackbushe from 1942 until today. Sadly, many of the relevant aircraft types are no longer available, or airworthy, but hopefully we will gather a representation of the past. That's my intention!
The administration of the event will be carried out by a committee under the jurisdiction of Blackbushe Airport Ltd, who will be underwriting the event costs.
We have three basic objectives..
1. To celebrate 75 years of flying at Blackbushe and to commemorate those who flew from here in combat but failed to return.
2. To raise the profile of the Airport to the wider community.
3. To raise as much money as possible for two chosen charities.
The workload over the next few weeks will be immense, the end product being in some ways similar to the Air Day this year whereby the public have the opportunity of getting close-up to some aircraft combined with plenty of family fun activities - in a relaxed atmosphere, but this time with some flying. I am working on the flying and static aircraft programme and will update on this when things become more 'news worthy'!!... The sky's the limit at the moment, my job is to pluck what I can from it...
Volunteers will be appreciated, it goes without saying! I'll place a volunteers listing thread in due course...
Meanwhile the team has much to do. For now hopefully you'll be around at the beginning of July - you may not want to miss it???
