Love the Viking stories Peter and especially the cartoon of the stewardess climbing across the wing spar, much to the enjoyment of the male passengers but viewed somewhat differently by the lady passenger on the right!

Thanks Peter for putting the Eagle offices picture on. It may be of interest that these offices were dismantled and taken to Heathrow with the Eagle move there. Often stood in there applying for staff discount flight tickets many to Innsbruck and Hamburg.

Ahh, thanks Eric, good news that the wreckers didn't get destroy everything! Great to know another bit of Blackbushe survived, the glass observation upper of the control tower also lived to see another day when it was relocated at a Scottish airport..

Re the picture of Big Doug 'hanging round' in a Brantly B2 helicopter; my first ever helicopter flight was in that same type at Kidlington in about '66. Myself and a friend donned our ATC Cadet uniforms one sunday to hitch hike there and as luck would have it, we got a lift from High Wycombe with the ground engineer for BEAS and he got us both a short 'ride'.

Re GOSDI and Airswift. When Aeromart closed down, Trevor Jones, the ex CFI, got a job with System Designers in Fleet. The boss, Philip Swinstead(?) realised the potential in having a business aircraft and after a foray with a TB10 and P68, they got GOSDI, then developed the theme by forming a 'new' Airswift, no connection with the original which operated 3 x Senecas from Blackbushe in the late '70s. This is how they acquired the Kingair which of course, eventually became Manhattan! I vaguely recall the C421 was based at Fairoaks for a while in the mid 80s under the name of 'Swinstead Aviation' but I think this was only short term.

Thanks Chevvron..You're right on the button with the Systems Designers/Swinstead/TJ association. SD occupied the site by the traffic lights at the end of Kings Road in Fleet which is now being redeveloped into a 'retirement' home..No connections. The evolution of aircraft types included G-OSAL, Golden Eagle, which indeed was Fairoaks based, wearing the familiar Air Swift colour scheme.
Visited your old stamping ground today, taking in the views from atop the Control Tower at EGLF, and seeing the faces behind LARS. North east Hampshire can boast two rather nice control towers, LK and LF with LF sporting a slightly more complex set-up!

Sorry just remembered; the P68 I mentioned wasn't I don't think anything to do with Swinstead. I remember Trevor telling me he flew it, that's where the mixup happened, he was actually flying DA, but quickly found DA had a 'problem' getting through the narrow door so he got rid of it!!
Did you have a look at the mini radar monitor used by the Farnborough Tower controller? Now wouldn't it be nice if that could be remoted to Fairoaks and Blackbushe so that the FISOs at those two could see when there was Farnborough traffic around and hence warn their own traffic.

Your suggestion re the mini monitor sounds totally logical, and in the interest of safety I would have thought essential..Peace of mind all round?
