Another screamer: It might have been on the Blackbushe website, but I've lost it now. Anyway, it refered to the airfield as Blaxkbushe (LHR)_ Another nonsense!! Some people on Pprune have been asking about you eg where have you gone? Mind you I can't moan, I've neglected this forum for some time due to various unsheduled hospital visits both for myself and my wife.

Grant Shapps is a recreational pilot and openly supportive of keeping our airfields free from property development.
The problem facing GA is that GS's push for airfield longevity flys in the face of HMG's policy for affordable housing.
I sincerely hope that a reconciliation of these conflicting interests will occur soon, especially now that the right honourable member for Newark is no longer involved.
The above is complicated by the COP26 agreements - whatever they are!?

Trouble is HMGs' policy isn't for affordable housing, it's about building as many houses as possible, making the largest possible profit for the developers. A field near me will disappear soon under 64 houses, the developers stating that to make the site profitable they are proposing to build no affordable housing. I suspect, following negotiations with our district council they'll get away with half a dozen affordables, (ie £250k), the rest will be for refugees from London and Surrey who see prices down here as a bit of a bargain, then complain about the inadequacies of our (once) lovely little town.

Thanks for your thoughts Alan: I imagined there might be an ulterior motive. There is something in the region of fifteen hundred kennels (social housing and other) being erected on a site at the Isle of dogs - very near Newham and Tower Hamlets. This could be the new Canary Wharf for the poor. Mind you some animals are more equal than others. Let's hope Blackbushe remains intact should the machinations of dark forces - other than Covid - attempt an invasion.

A splendid gallery of Vikings today PB: the very first pic on the 'new' POTD, 31 January 2015, was the one of passengers deplaning from one of the might midgets. Such a variety of aircraft shapes and sounds in those days, beauty did not tug at the heart strings of the avid spotter back then until...! Thanks for the collection.

Well spotted. The aircraft may not fly again, but her value as an experience and aviation awareness generator cannot be over stressed. Much the same as my current hopes and reactions to an ex-Blackbushe Viking that currently languishes in a foreign field when she should really be at Blackbushe telling the brave story of British independent aviation's Blackbushe based growth and struggle after World War Two.

My first ever flight at the age of four was in a Viking to Nice but I can remember b..all about it.
Any chance of changing the anniversary date? My son is having his third attempt at getting married that day and I really should attend, the wedding I mean.
