PB, in relation to todays POTD re. G-APWA, in case you are not aware there's a nice feature by Scottie Bateman (ex RAF C130, BA747 and current BA A350 pilot) on his Channel (The Layover) on YouTube featuring a lookover of this aircraft, which resides in the Museum at Woodley. His fellow contributor Mark Smith (also a BA pilot) flew the Herald earlier in his career (I think for Channel Express) so it makes interesting viewing.

Indeed, highly illuminating insight as to how aeroplane technology has advanced in the sharp end since those days when the Herald was one of the new types to show at Farnborough and sleek turboprops were the way ahead. Forum always highly grateful to all members who post information such as this. THANKS EX!!!

My family moved to the sleepy village of Yateley in '61. We moved out of the rapidly expanding town in '71. I arrived at my present home, a lovely sleepy New Forest town (I was a copper then and posted there, no choice) in '75. Over the years it's grown but now, under our wonderful government and county council, it is proposed that it will expand from 6000 people to c.9000. No roads, no schools, no improvement to medical services, employment or public transport and building on very dodgy sites. I hope the new residents like water features inside their houses . With it the flavour of the countryside and rural life that was evident here in '75 and summed up Yateley in '61 will disappear. Sad times.

Another screamer: It might have been on the Blackbushe website, but I've lost it now. Anyway, it refered to the airfield as Blaxkbushe (LHR)_ Another nonsense!!

There is a wealth of anecdotal history within the 'covers' of POTD PB. For the sake of history the 'book' must survive as well as EGLK, needless to say! I hope to attend on 11 June next and meet up with an old chum from way back, chums of recent years and hopefully meet some new ones.
All the photographers' do the forum a great service.

'A Free French Air Force crew, we can only imagine their experiences or conversation.'
Can you imagine bombing your own country for the sake of liberation? What mixed feelings must have crossed the hearts and minds of the lads who did the necessary. PTSD wasn't too well recognised back then!
Most forum members haven't lived through the atrocities of a world war. My mother, now 94, alive and kicking and fully compos mentis, lived all her life in London. A keen aircraft spotter, she has many a story to tell of the war.
Times have changed!!!

I appreciate that the 'old boys' - 70+, perhaps a little younger - are moving on to the world of (?). But, if anybody out there has something to say, photos etc, about RAF Hartford Flats - later RAF Blackbushe - and early EGLK it would contribute a lot to the forum. Even if the management, in the past, was not the flavour of the month to some. Anecdotal contributions are valuable. Flyboy has contributed an enormous amount of information - please read and contribute. We are talking real life human experience here, not just aircrft movements, albeit also important.
