I fully agree Peter regarding todays pictures what great shots and subjects. I can feel the winter chill from that slush on the tarmac underneath the B170 freighter. Id like to think tucked away in albums across the country if not the world are other similar pictures just waiting to be re discovered, hopefully to find their way here for all to enjoy. Imagine my delight when I received a hitherto unknown picture of my Proctor G-AKEX from an enthusiast in Sweden. The picture was taken by his father not long after the Proctors arrival in 1952 and shows a beautiful almost factory fresh looking aircraft. We are still hopeful of someone sending us a colour or black and white shot of the aircraft in the UK between 1947 and 1952. Glad the aerial pictures of Blackbushe were well received and for those who may ask all taken on an iphone 7. Technology today continues to astound, hard really to see how pictures like these can be improved on, but I guess like everything in a couple of decades we will regard these as fairly average...!

The aerial shots were great quality. If enlarged there should be no problem finding PB in the car park before he becomes pixelated Beam me up, Scotty!
Today's POTD shots are first class. Can't beat black and White images; very atmospheric, so many grey areas!

Ahh you have to be pixelated to deal with a subject like Blackbushe for 60 years and continue to seek the resolution you hoped for all those years ago. Sadly the grey areas look like staying a while longer yet...As for finding PB before pixelation takes place I wish you luck! Some black and white images about to be served on this another monochrome morning on POTD. Enjoy before you're beamed up....

So dear old Viking G-AGRW is for the chop. So sad. The museum started with so much enthusiasm when they removed it from McDonald's at Vienna airport. Just wouldn't it have been great to have been able to see at Blackbushe. Of course in Eagle colours!! I recall working on it when employed with Overseas Aviation at Gatwick. Had great fun flying in it for a test flight. Years later I did get to see it at Mcdonald's they even opened it up for me to reminisce.

Yes GRW is almost no more. I saw it on a rooftop at Vienna airport in 1990. It was not in great condition even back then. It has been outside for 50 years and is apparently badly coroded. I think we are down to 5 survivors, lets hope the one in Basle gets restored? Rob

Another friend. G-AGRW, prepares to die under the scrap man's blowtorch. For GRW the Grim Reaper Waits, at least one or two of the aeroplanes that made Blackbushe "Blackbushe" in the fifties will survive in museums, sadly the hopes of a suitable gate guard at this venerable aerodrome continue to dwindle. Sadly aeroplanes historic value seems not to realised until long after their demise, but ain't that the way with so many things - and even people?

Photos to die for PB, the C-46 in particular.

Agree, thanks to Graham Jones for this. To die for? I'll do much for Blackbushe, but that's pushing the envelope a little!

Almost by osmosis we absorb the past - especially our own experiences - but how many use that history to provide informed decisions for the future. Today, paradigm shifts are not much in evidence nor are the consequencies of poor decisions made in the past. One does not have to look far! Carry on the good work PB, we are with you.

Dear Sir Rocky14, I cannot overstate the pleasure it gives to have the support you so generously supply.. A major paradigm shift is long overdue in areas with which many reading our exchanges will be familiar. Not sure how "good" my work is but if it does anything toward the coalescing of positive vibes toward the airfield plus an appreciation of both her rich past and her strong potential then my hat can be hung up with a degree of satisfaction? Good to have you with me, sadly such sentiment is not universal, I've no right to assume it should be I guess?
