Peter - Much enjoyed the fly-in photograph - am I correct in recalling (you have a few years on me - I would certainly have been in short trousers at this point) that the caravan behind second line of aircraft (one of which matches my avatar) was the 'home' of the airlines flying group 'cos I reckon I recognise my dad's yellow Anglia next to it

Glad you mention the caravan, it was indeed home of the Airlines Flying Group. Dear old PCY and her sweet exhaust (!) and the lovely EWY both of which I enjoyed airborne time. It really is feeling like a long time ago, the Blackbushe years have crept around stealing time in the process, and now simply too many missing faces from those tough but unforgettable years. Today's header: the focus on the aircraft and passengers' embarkation is fantastic, the background has since been pillaged! Who would wish to embark on Blackbushe east these days; it's a seriously unattended H&E matter that needs addressing. HCC has loads of money in its ring fenced reserves - one mishap on Blackbushe east will be catastrophic for all but, for HCC, a disaster!

I could not agree more, good to have someone sharing my hymn book - it is Sunday! Thank you. Having just read your reaction to the 'header' portraying a DC-6 passenger boarding on the Airport's once massive apron it comes just as I'd changed the header to a Lockheed 12 in a similar location. Less passengers, but valuable infrastructure all of which was destroyed in the eagerness to remove Blackbushe from the map.. As for mishaps, the costly removal of the massively valuable east end of the main runway by the Parish Council did not help when the Bin Laden accident happened. The runway at its original length might well have secured a happier ending?

With all these trials & tribulations with HCC it is not only Blackbushe that struggles. On the local news Southampton is trying to extend the runway to allow larger types to land and thus increase business rather than being restricted to twin turbos. The normal pressure groups are gathering to oppose such happenings and the reporters comment was that if business did not improve the airport could become a business park or housing estate. If this happens would help Blackbushe as yet another airfield could disappear in the region. Fingers crossed for BB.

Thank you 'Aviologist'!! Comments and observations such as those you make are the life blood of forums such as this. Unfortunately we do not have a great deal of 'two-way traffic' here so your words and opinions are of immense value. I don't expect 100% agreement with all the Forum has to say, we're not exactly a dictatorial state, and indeed I have received some pretty unpleasant stuff aimed at my private life. But, the cause for Blackbushe outweighs such interference.
Could not agree more with what you say about Southampton, the inevitable 'anti-army' will be gathering weapons at the drop of a word that suggest "progress". It has been noted how the BBC southern news reports regarding the proposed small runway extension at Southampton have always stressed the word "heavier" aircraft suggesting that increasingly extinct birds like the 747 might have been expected! The word "noise" also routinely applied to generate the necessary venom of anti airport aggression. Poor old Fly-be, BBC South always felt the need to repeat a recorded Q400 making a rather lumpy arrival at EGHI to illustrate their local airport. Pre Covid, as the runway extension plans were, why the urge to muster opposition to the Southampton regions great asset? Air transport is the vehicle that has created our modern world and airports will remain a valued provider to many a local economy.
As you say Sir, IF Southampton Airport closed to make way for the business park or housing estate that Blackbushe opponents also have some mystical information about it does leave Blackbushe with an even greater cause. Flying in or out of Southampton there is no comparison as to which airport has the greater environmental appeal. Southampton's approaches from the north are over residential and tightly packed business areas, while departing that runway leads directly over the M27 and large areas of housing. Blackbushe affords clear and unobstructed approaches in either direction to her slightly shorter than Southampton runway.
As you so rightly say, "Fingers crossed for BB".
