Morning Pete, I read with interest your comments above, and also RJ's on a previous thread, the problem is NAF Mildenhall is Scheduled to close in 2016, and as you rightly say it would be very appropriate if one of the C-12'S could attend, if as my understanding is correct the NAF at Mildenhall re- locate to Spain, will this still be viable?, so far as I know RJ they are not due to re - equip with the C-27's so we are talking about a C-12 making a trip from Spain to Blackbushe, OK in the commercial sphere of things this is not unheard of, but given the distance will the new Navy Commander play ball ? Just a thought to throw out there.... Cheers Adrian NAF Mildenhall actually closed in 2005, there is a small US navy detachment with no aircraft. This was due to the USN Europe HQ moving to Naples .Nearest USN inits are at Naples and Sigonella, Sicily both with a pair of C-26. Im not aware of any other permanently Europe based USN Aircraft?

Well... put the crowd on the north side and effectively theres no airshow! Unless of course you shut South side to the general public !! Which isnt going to go down well with the businesses on that side that may look to the airshow as good publicity and in the cafes case a nice little earner !!! If there was anything on the northside south would have to be restricted to those who normally use those areas. Obviously you can not have to not have spectators on both sides of the runway. Its all just another bridge to cross I guess . the car park is not big enough for a public event south side, yet use of southside may prevent airshow northside, catch 22!

You would effectively be shutting down any business operating south-side for the day !!!
How about if the display line ran N - S Over the common to the E of the field?? Are thete any houses it would affect ?

Hi Jeff a different display line is a great idea. It would have to be parallel to 32/14 as and further east is over housing. CAP403 states a maximum of 230m from the crowd for high speed aircraft over 300kt , 200m for slower prop warbirds. the nearest property is at Little Vigo and that is no closer than 290m to the far edge of the 32/14 runway. And from the crowd line it would be another 10m minimum from the runway, it could be moved a little further. There is plenty of open ground each end for turning but displaying aircraft would have to be prevented from going more than 50 east of the display line, don't know how practical that is? However the main issue is that the common land( story of the airports life!). You could easily have spectators right under the display line unless a way can be found of closing that area that is legal?
I guess we have until 2017 to sort this out as I assume next year will be more on the lines discussed for this year? Anybody who has any ideas please share them so we can give Peter something to think about.
Rob
