Blackbushe Airport, aka Royal Air Force Hartford Bridge, was home to a wide variety of military aviation activities during World War Two. The famed Free French "Lorraine Squadron" played an essential role during the conflict, their operations being the more harrowing tasked with targets in their treasured homeland knowing that these sorties could bring death and injury to Earth bound French comrades whilst routing the Nazi invaders. The following are extracts from Paul Lambermonts superbly written "Lorraine Squadron". They give an idea of life on our airfield as it was during wartime.
