I've just discovered that sadly, Reverend Michael Banfield, affectionately known as the "Sky Chaplain" sadly passed away at the end of March. The reverend was Luton Airport’s chaplain until 2013, which he described as “the most privileged and enjoyable ministry”. More recently he spent a bit of time at Blackbushe, and I know was a regular sight, and avid supporter of all things aviation. I received some very kind words from him in support of our efforts re: Deregistration.

Yet more sad news.
I had numerous communications with Michael over the past months, and we met at the Bushe Cafe to discuss his suggestions regarding Blackbushe adopting him for pastoral duties.
A man who clearly loved aviation, held high a regard for Blackbushe, and a strong willingness to help his fellow men.
The news of his sad passing on Easter Sunday coincides with the Easter message of our souls continuing their flight after our mortal bodies have run their course, let us pray Michael has now found those new pastures and rests in a much deserved eternal peace. God be with you Michael, it was a privilege to have known you...

One chaplain when I was at Heathrow was Revd Albert Hadshar who had taught me French at school some years earlier!
