It's a while since the sound of a DC-6 treated my senses, but Red Bull have just brought a huge smile to my face as that unbelievable sound came down from above a few minutes ago.. A wide orbit of the Farnborough circuit placed her overhead with gear and flaps down, and that sound! Oh my, that sound.... The sound of Blackbushe, for that's what it was! A sound that comes back in an instant with those mighty P&W's, it only took a second but those sounds found a very tender place amid long stored memories, and that smile could so easily be joined by the glistening drop no doubt caused by staring skywards?
It's made my day, now back to the CAA Airspace Change Proposals.. Be great if Red Bull could do a run across Blackbushe during the coming week? They might just be at Blackbushe, but unsure with which aircraft..

Let's hope they fly a similar circuit during the displays....

When I was at the churchyard at about 5pm a DC6 flew northeastbound just north of Finchampstead. A little later it sounded to be flying aT Farnborough. Can anyone confirm please?

The Six and his Red Bull followers, Corsair, P-38, B-25, all headed north and tracked VOR style to Duxford. Hopefully I might get around to talking to them on Sunday...His finale from my viewpoint south west of EGLF was a low and throttle filled P&W roar over home prior to routing west of EGLK and onward to Duxford... Twice in one afternoon have I been seranaded by the womder of a quartet of P&W's bolted to a DC-6.
Really would be satisfying to get a run across that one time home of big Sixes...Blackbushe!

Hi Peter
I hope you’re well? I just wanted to catch up and make you aware of my movements these days and I thought why not share with like minded people here in the BBS forum. Since the demise of Blink, following the horrendous 18 month ownership by Wijet (will say no more as legal issues continue), I now find myself responsible for the maintenance of an even bigger fleet of Mustangs at GlobeAir. The old favorites G-FBLK/FLBK/BNK/BKB/BKC are still with me but will reappear for next year on the Austrian registry once we sort paint and interiors.
So what’s this got to do with the DC-6 I hear you ask? I’ve just spent the last two weeks at HQ in Linz, working with a fantastic group of people with everything I’d thought Blink was going to be. We had some time off so visited Salzburg and the Red Bull Hangar 7, WOW! For anyone unaware of this place you don’t know what you’re missing. First of all it’s free! Secondly it’s open until 2200L with bars and restaurants where you can sit and enjoy the stunning collection of aircraft, cars and artwork. The DC-6 was on Mx so didn’t get the chance to get up close and personal but for sure i’ll be back there ASAP to take another look, I’d highly recommend a visit. It really does show what you can do and I only wish we’d have had more success with our previous efforts to preserve a piece of history.
I’ll be at the Bushe in the next week or so and will give you a shout when I’m there. All the best Pat

Hi Pat
Very many thanks for the very welcome 'catch up'!! Congratulations on your position amid the many Mustangs..brilliant!! Yes, indeed I'm very well thanks, even better hearing how your post Wijet life is doing. A very unfortunate period, but as you say, something not for current discussion. Good to hear that old Mustang friends are still with you, look forward to seeing them (and you..) in due course wearing new colours!! Sad that old Blink friends are no longer around Blackbushe, but happily not all have disappeared...
As you say, regarding the DC-6, it's a terrible shame that our efforts to bring G-APSA back home did not come to fruition, we could perhaps have had her back at Blackbushe by now. However, was not to be, but at least we did our best! I had a look at the Red Bull 6 at Farnborough and a long chat with Julian who flies her ( as well as G-APSA's last visit to Blackbushe!)..The money Red Bull poured into their "Six" wa eye watering.. A vacancy for a gate guard at Blackbushe is still open! I've seen photos of the RB base at Linz...ooh, how nice to have such a wonderful hangar. Maybe Blackbushe will have some new hangars next year after the April Inquiry??
Do let me know when you're going to be at 'LK, advance notice preferred as life is ultra busy at the moment.. really look forward to catching up!!
Great to hear from you Pat,
See you soon Peter
