There are some rather sad, more recent, photos of G-ANIS on both Ficker and SWAG reports on the internet. All that remains of her would seem to be the fuselage at the Cavan & Leitrim Railway,Drumod in Ireland. I remember her well so it's now a particularly sad sight of an old warbird.

Some of our laws etc go back 100's of years, isn't it about time we updated everything to reflect life in the 21st century?

Some of our laws etc go back 100's of years, isn't it about time we updated everything to reflect life in the 21st century? Thanks David, it's most gratifying to receive a comment, and "POTD" truly appreciates yours today.. Have to admit much of the law of the 21st Century should be applicable to life and its needs today, not fashioned on circumstances of many a yesteryear. Blackbushe Airport is an example where its future appears to be hung on the balance of defining 'curtilage'. Historic England state that, " not all buildings will have a curtilage. With those that do there will be cases where the extent of the curtilage will be clear (such as a garden boundary) but in others in may not be as clear each case will always be a question of fact and degree". In 2015 a bill was proposed to ammend the Planning(Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 by removing reference to curtilage. It went no further than the first reading and was eventually withdrawn.. Defining 'curtilage'!!! The High Court has held that an airport's operational land did not fall within the curtilage of the Terminal Building and so should remain registered as common land. No prizes for guessing which airport this referred to? Sadly no sense has been found in law that might encourage common sense over the small amount of Blackbushe the owners seek to de-register....

The picture of G-AHPM in happier days. Sadly in August it will be sixty years ago that it crashed into the mountain Holteheia near Stavanger and 34 pupils and 2 masters plus 3 Eagle crew members lost their lives. Ten years ago I was privileged to be invited to represent the Eagle company at the memorial event on the mountain along with many of the families. Later to join with many people in Croydon at the towns own memorial service. The hospitality shown by the Norwegian people was amazing.

I'm not 'a spotter' - I have no desire to fly things again (long since past), nor to return to the industry (c 35 years and worldwide experiences that I treasure - at least most of them - and even those 10yrs+ past). In short, perfectly happy to have the occasional potter in personal history (which the forum provides) as I consume my double doppio (bucket of expresso to you) and appropriate treat of the day whilst planning the day's financial services business admin) .... UNTIL ....
I saw 2-YOLO - I want one and want to fly one (now I just need my medical and licence back and a few million !!)

As the registration says, YouOnlyLiveOnce. Perhaps a Forum whip round we could have our own based at Blackbushe?

I'm in St Ives as I type and about half-a-mile from where POTUS and his entourage are now accomodated at Tregenna Castle. The Presidential Sikorsky's and Ospreys have been in and out a few times until yesterday when the Cornish "mizzle" descended and he had to be transferred by road from Newquay in probably the largest/most secure road convoy known to man.
Today (if the murk clears) we are to see HMS Prince of Wales join us as a backdrop for the political goings on. 3 other RN warships (and numerous other smaller military/police launches) are already in the Bay that I am overlooking.
On Saturday evening we have a Red Arrows flypast to look forward to.
There is a fortress around the 2 venues, but in St Ives town itself things are pretty normal, aside from a large (but very friendly) police presence.
