A valuable indicator for sure! Clearly shows the dreadful damage inflicted by Yateley Parish Council early in the 1960's to the airfield's 'east end'.. The main runway lost vital length, the apron was shrunk by at least 60%. The United Navy's complex to the north east magically transformed into a business park. AVM Bennett wished to purchase the US Navy hangar on the basis that it would become integral in the new Airport layout... Subsequent owners of Blackbushe offered very large sums of money to acquire part of the apron and save the Terminal from destruction by the County Council. As we know, Hampshire destroyed their two thirds of the building and the hopes of acquiring some of the estate east of Vigo Lane were also dashed. The bureaucrats preferred to spend Council cash to the detriment of the airfield, future job prospects and earnings for local coffers. The miracle is that Blackbushe has survived six decades since its closure by HM Government and despite our local councils.

Further considerations one positive, one open to discussion..
The photo demonstrates one of Blackbushe's great assets... Long unobstructed approaches from either end that are also free of passage over any residential sites. Strong operational and environmental plus points.
The other point for consideration is the very large area of Common Land occupied by British Car Auctions, the old market site, Common Land, appears totally covered in parked vehicles awaiting auction.. Quite surprising local bureaucracy and ardent Common Land protectors have not pounced on the matter?

The last line of todays' post is so correct. I would have been 5 when my family drove from home at Hampton Hill to holiday in Cornwall in Dads' Standard Vanguard estate but I can still remember coming to a halt whilst a seemingly massive aeroplane was towed across the A30.

Re: POTD 14th June 2021. The image of the three airmen enjoying a pint appears to be "mirrored". I'm sure that military "fore and aft" caps are worn "on the other side"

For the past 20 years I've been a town councillor in Fordingbridge and ever since 2010 we've been told about cuts to spending by HCC by our county councillor. To challenge some of what he says about the financial hardships being suffered by the county, a couple of weeks ago I made an FOI request asking how much had been spent by HCC challenging the status of common land at Blackbushe. I await a reply and know, from other FOI requests I've made, the first reply is often not entirely accurate. A second or third challenge usually gets a more accurate reply. I'll let you know how I get on.

Just a few thoughts on the back of an envelope:
*introducing and increasing charges for some services; What services? *lobbying central Government for legislative changes; What does that mean? Who is lobbying HCC? *generating additional income; Let EGLK survive. *using the County Council's reserves; Vire the 'massive anti EGLK fighting fund' to a useful budget. *reducing and changing services; There is a basic standard of provision enshrined in statute *increasing Council Tax; Not politically popular! *changing local government arrangements in Hampshire If for the better a good idea, this applies to personnel as well!

I sincerely hope today's POTD produces some further responses, I feel the time for giving HCC a talking to is pending, the brick wall around Winchester needs to be scaled?
