A couple of years ago I was taking my Saturday morning walk along the fence and came upon an old chap, puffing and panting a bit and resting against the fence. After a brief "Morning", he launched into a fairly vitriolic diatribe against Blackbushe and its pilots. Boy, did he have a chip on his shoulder! In the middle of his speech, he said how he was tempted to turn up at 2am one morning and demand to use the right-of-way across the airfield. I suspect that if he ever did , security wouldn't be too troubled by him (and may even be grateful of the diversion in the middle of a long night shift), but it sort of makes the point that there are those who might object just to be b****y minded about the whole thing.

In all my years of association with the airfield, I've never seen anyone try to use the right of way (even when it could have been used as a shortcut from the A30 across to the Sunday Market). Suspect (hope!) that very few people, even locals, know about it or care enough to take the stance that this gent did. Hope you're well, by the way!

I think times have very much changed, simond's experience very much shows the old face of Blackbushe opposition. I think people are now more tolerant of things that have been there that long.

Unfortunately unfounded criticism is an endemic characteristic of us Brits - so easy to do but so difficult to substantiate a reasoned argument why. Reminds me of the old bloke in 'The Vicar of Dibley'...No no no no ....Yes!

Happened not infrequently when I was there in 1966. An ancient army-type used to ride his horse across the airfield. THe SATCO used to chase off but he came back...

The sixties bring back happy memories of those who assumed they had rights to do what they liked on the airfield, including regularly scattering nails on the runways. That was when our respect for them tended to break down!! With aircraft on the ground, our pointing out to the transgressors that, "Walking across a runway" was not such a good idea with an aeroplane on the approach, the wandering parties often replied with, "Didn't know it's an airfield". As Controller points out, the equine fraternity took to riding their steeds with little regard to our requests to avoid the runways.. Happily, today there is an understanding that walking on the runway is not a good idea regardless of 'rights'. The next few weeks could be decisive, and as I've said in blackbusheairport.proboards.com/post/7843 this is our long awaited to chance to voice support for Blackbushe and do our collective bit toward securing her future as an airfield. All responses to Hampshire CC in support of the airfield will be another brick in the building of a new and improved Blackbushe. It's a great and long awaited chance.. Your chance.... PB

Hi guys, not getting much time for the forum at the moment. I have responded to the planning application. Lots of discussion on the Yateley facebook group. Seems few in opposition for what is proposed but many think that removing common rights gives a green light to selling the airport for housing, not something I had thought about before. I think the airport can win this one as long as they can assure locals that it will just be a airport in the future.
Back to setting up a business...
