6th April...warm afternoon.
Took my 3 mile walk on the common and disused runways to enjoy the sun and keep the fitness regime happy...
Snakes are a potential problem on the common and amid the shrubery, today proving the point. What appeared to be a stick sprawled across the path suddenly unwound, hissed and slithered out of my way. Seeing as my starboard shoe almost trod on the angry serpent I was quite glad it was he took the fright and flight option.
Clearly an adder by the zig zag markings, and not the first I've met on BB over the years. This happened on the path leading from Vigo Lane (the one that crossed the Airport) to the disused runways.
Just a word of caution, they are quite nervy creatures and will move most of the time..perhaps they're a bit dozey at this time of year? Who wouldn't be having slept all winter..??
Walking back along the same path a little later was less relaxing than usual...but I made it!!

Thanks for the warning PB; at least the reptile was not of the species that may have been left by the USN in the '50s!
