Time to journey back to when many of you weer young and good looking!Years before I was born of course.BEA lost another Viscount on this day in 1956.This was a training captain cock up. He meant to shut down number 4 engine on rotation but throttled back number 4 and accidentally shut off the fuel to number 3 as well so the aircraft became very asymmetric, and uncontrollable. the 5 crew escaped but the rear of the aircraft was burnt out and was unrepairable.

Time for another look back on this day. Viking 'GON was the first production aircraft but only carried fare paying passengers for a few months with BEA. It was transferred to the RAE from 1947-54 as VW214 (visited Blackbushe during this time)before being sold to Eagles. Im guessing it had some non standard mods with the RAE and was not suitable for return to civil standard and was sold to BKS Southend for spares use?

Its is that time of day again. On this day in 1959 a aircraft that is around to the day arrived. CF-MCK would quickly become G-APSA of Eagle and operate many long distance flights from Blackbushe. Initially it was strangely registered to its Canadian owner, Maritime Central and did not officially become a Eagle aircraft to 28/7/59.It continued with the airline until 1954 when it was sold to Saudi Arabia. It returned to the UK in 1987 and visited Blackbushe in its former Eagle scheme. Its cofa expired in 20019 and is now sat at Coventry. Would make a nice Blackbushe gate guard, although a bit on the large size!

Todays selection illustrates just how much crew training was done in the 50's. Of course the lack of simulators meant that the only training possible was in the air. Although the thought of a Connie, or York in the circuit may fill us with excitement, it did not the local residents! The noise combined with a right hand circuit back then meant the throb of Merlins and P&W's reverberated around Hartley Wintney, Eversley Sandhurst, and Blackwater most days.

Today shows how Blackbushe was at the forefront of jet transport. The Comet 1 had spent many hours bashing the circuit before it was withdrawn and 1959 saw a few visits of the Comet 4. These flights caused a good deal of complaint from the locals as the Comet was not the quietest aircraft ever made! Also featuring today is my favorite name for a airline 'Dr Tigges Fahrten' , hardly the most catchy name! Their Vikings visited for maintenance, as did the other German Viking operators.

Just a short one from days gone by. Am off to the big smoke so no more until Sunday or Monday. Dakota G-AMPO must be one of the longest lived in the UK. First operated by Starways in 1953 it was then operated by Eagle from 1954-56. Strangely it went back to Starways until 1963.It spent 1965-69 in Norway before returning to be operated by BAC from Filton until 72.It was then registered to 'Macedonian Securities (overseas) Ltd) 72-74, and three more owners 75-81 but was operated by Eastern Airways, it even visited the Bushe during this time on a football charter 12/4/80. From 1981 until its CofA expired in 1997 it was operated by Air Atlantique. It gave me my first Dak flight c1992 from Coventry. After withdraw it went to Lyneham as a gate guard, and went to Brize Norton in 2012 for similar purposes.

Time for a catch up after a weekend in London. On this day in 1956 the Argentinian Vikings finally left after several months conversion at Eagles. This day in 1960 saw one of the few Vickers Vanguards to visit before the airport closed a few months later, no doubt on crew training? Morning time to look back in time, as ever these are from various logs of spotters and air crew. The Berverleys would have been visiting in order to pick up troops for paradrop practice, probably 'the paras' from Aldershot. These flights also operated in the 80's and 90's flying from Farnborough.
