Here we are again, start of the football season, where did the summer go? I shall be off to watch the might Hartley Wintney this afternoon. Back in the 50's their games would have been disturbed by a lot more than the odd Cessna! Back in the 50's the British Aircraft industry was the countries leading exporter and today reflects that. I am assuming the Attackers were going cheap, as they were never more than a mediocre aircraft. The Viscount on the other hand was a world beater, as the Blackbushe movements frequently showed.

Is Air Couriers still trading? I am reminded of two ex Lufthansa Vikings, D-BONE and D-BORA, parked outside the Air Couriers hangar at Biggin Hill in '64. I think one or both flew into EGLK, occasionally, in the 'golden era'.

time for a quick one, its SWMBO's birthday tomorrow so have to behave! I'm sure the local residents of 1949 enjoyed a overloaded Bristol Freighter slowly climbing out on its long delivery flight at 06:15? This was the first aircraft on the then saudi register (nice photo here www.edcoatescollection.com/ac5/ROW%20Asia/SA-AAA.html ) I assume these were probably used for oil related freighting, don't have my B170 book to hand to find out its fate. 06/08/1949 SA-AAA Bristol 170 12790 Saudi Arabian Airlines delivery to Jeddah via Marseille 06:15 06/08/1955 N24W Lockheed Learstar 18-2613 C.B. Patience rocky...
Today we have a quite short lis. Of interest is one of the few marathons to fine long term employment, in Japan. The marathon was one of those abortions designed by government committee with no thought of talking to the operator. So consequently it failed to attract operators with it's high running, and purchase costs.

I quite like the C-46 - some are still flying - not the most beautiful of aircraft, the manatee of the sky perhaps...se what you mean about the short list Rob!
