The photo of the PP on the present (17 Aug) bannershot is quite poignant for me, it being almost exactly 54 years since I flew in one!
Just short of my 14th birthday, my first ever flight was in an Argosy from Benson, and about a month later my ATC Squadron went to annual camp at Little Rissington. There were a couple of Chipmunks allocated for our use there, but some of the station pilots who were not attached to CFS volunteered to fly cadets in the Provosts as part of their own continuation training (CT). I was allocated a flight in a Provost with the station Senior Medical Officer and he taught me how to handle the controls and actually fly the aircraft myself! It rather spoiled me for later Chipmunk flights as I found it easier to pick things up by being able to watch how he handled the controls.

For you Chev I'll leave the PP bannershot in place a while longer.
It took me a few years longer than you to get off the deck in this example of charming British aeronautical craftsmanship. What a delightful lady she is, responsive but in no way vicious, feels like a big deal when you mount her and attach her to your back, but my brief experience showed how a serious love affair could follow our intimate introduction.
Ahhh...

I remember one flying eastwards from somewhere near Newbury to Biggin. The controller (not me) asked if he could do a flypast at Farnborough and he replied 'OK but I can't do anything impressive as I've got baggage and wife on board'. A minute later he said 'sorry I got that wrong, I should have said wife and baggage'! My flight was in XF680 on 27 Aug 62 lasting 30 min. I too remember the nice light controls but also all that elbow room compared with the Chipmunk, plus you could see out the front, cadets having to fly in the back seat in Chipmunks.

....I was, beyond any doubt, in the wrong ATC Squadron!

....I was, beyond any doubt, in the wrong ATC Squadron! Luck of the draw mate. The following year we were sent to Ballykelly (near Londonderry) and had to trek to Aldergrove for a flight in a Shackleton MR2!

Some have it tough, I had to drag all the way to Midland, Texas, to fly in the B-29.
..didn't complain once.

The Sultan of Oman's Air Force used to operate armed versions of the Provost before they were replaced by Jet Provosts.
