I notice in the local press that Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond were at the airfield last Thursday ( 5.5.16) filming during the afternoon /evening for his new Amazon motoring show. This accounts for the airfield being closed for the period. I wonder if this will become a regular thing? Stuart

Well I guess they can't use Dunsfold any more (as I assume that's for Chris Evans and Co. now)!
If it's a revenue stream for the Airport and it brings publicity then why not?
Clarkson will always divide opinion (he's made a career of it!) and maybe there will be those that will not welcome his presence, but as long as it doesn't negatively impact the primary business of the Airport, it has to be a good thing in my opinion.

Yes, I suppose it's a question of wait and see, but I agree with you I am sure any added revenue would be welcome. However, I hope it won't interfere with the flying too much, and I am sure the customers will too! Stuart

Clarkson will always divide opinion (he's made a career of it!) and maybe there will be those that will not welcome his presence, but as long as it doesn't negatively impact the primary business of the Airport, it has to be a good thing in my opinion. The use of Dunsfold to film Top Gear was conditional on them vacating the runway for short periods to allow (perish the thought) aircraft to take off or land. Whenever we did signal for them to vacate, if they had to wait more than a minute or so, they started getting shirty saying things like 'we've paid for the use of this runway'. Course in order to ensure the runway was sufficiently clear, we had to close it a couple of minutes before the aircraft movement took place, so this happened just about every time!! Pity I only worked there a couple of months, I would have enjoyed annoying Clarkson who has admitted he deliberately tries to run over wild animals on the road and gives himself points for the species and whether he kills or just injures it. Now don't get me going.
