Blackbushe Interesting visitors 1947-60-the jets

Jet aircraft were more common that you think at Blackbushe in the 1947-60 period. BOAC Comets used the airport for extensive crew training at the RAF jets were regular visitors. In those days senior RAF pilots could borrow aircraft for the weekend to visit home and Blackbushe was a favorite destination for these flights.
As with the previous thread the information here is not complete. tHERE ARE NO SURVING OFFICIAL RECORDS OF bLACKBUSHE MOVEMENTS SO THESE HAVE BEEN GATHERED OVER MANY YEARS FROM SPOTTERS LOG BOOKS.
The Avro Ashton was testbed for future large jets and ended its days as a testbed at Farnborough from where it visited.
24/09/1959 WB491 Avro Ashton RAE Farnborough .
The Avro Vulcan made a sole visit to Blackbushe in 1955. The aircraft departed the Farnborough show with Anthony Dedn onboard for a demo flight. The aircraft returned to Blackbushe as Farnborough was closed for display flying by then.
Sadly very few photos exist of this visit.

A rare shot of XA890 departing Blackbushe. The aircraft was scraped at Boscombe Down in 1973
canadair CL-13 Sabre. This was a Canadian built licence built version of the F-86 sabre and served with the RAF and The Canadian Forces in Europe. The aircraft was built in Canada as a way of quickly increasing production of this important aircraft.

The DH108 was a tailess reasearch aircraft designed to exceed the speed of sound, which it did. Most of the few built ended up at farnborough.

The de Havilland Comet needs no introduction. Blackbushe was a major Comet training base operating 24 hours a day until a wave of noise complaints curtailed the hours. Even when the Comet 4 was introduced limited training continued.
