The FIS frequency of 122.3 has been NOTAMed as possibly intermittently unavailable from 1300 on 6 March to 0800 on 12 March due to staff problems. Wonder if that will curtail visitors?

Interesting, and ironic! Wasn't there interest some time ago from a couple of members about a possible FISO position? I guess they will prioritize times around public transport movements and will obviously close for breaks? Do the schools need FISO to leagally carry out training or is safetycom ok? I was amazed to fly out of a field in Arizona with about 100 based GA plus a few King Airs and airworthy A-4 Skyhawks and it was always Safetycom (i.e blind calls, see and avoid), CAA would have had a fit! I believe the position advertised was for an ATCO, which is somewhat different from a FISO. I don't know the legal requirements for flight training but I know of at least one aerodrome in southern UK where training takes place and which only has an A/G service. I believe that Safetycom may only be used at aerodromes where no frequency is promulgated.

That's correct, Safetycom mustn't be used where a discrete frequency (in this case 122.3) is promulgated. Blink have mentioned employing ATCOs to provide ATC in the past, however when both myself and malcolm tried the e-mail contact they advertised, neither of us had a reply. Additionally, I've offered my services as a freelance FISO also with no reply. Strange because malcolm used to be a qualified part time FISO there but they stopped rostering him so eventually his validation lapsed, otherwise he might be able to fill in.

I think it got a bit desperate with A/G in use more than usual.
