8.10.15. Just wondered if anyone knows what happened to Dennis Cooper, licensed controller who worked for the AVM in the early days ( possibly early 1960's ). Also anyone remember Mike Sheehy?

Denis went to Southampton but not sure after that. I've been exchanging chat on PPRuNe about ATCOs who flew in the war and one correspondent worked with DC at Southampton. Worth a look if you get the chance - www.pprune.org/atc-issues/568505-ww2-aircrew-atc.html. Mike Sheehy I do recall but I don't know what happened to him.

Thanks Bren, Was it 'our' Dennis Cooper that flew with 617 Squadron? 617 was the 'Dam Buster' Squadron wasn't it? I heard that Mike Sheehy owned a Cessna 310 at one time, wonder if he kept it at BB ? Any info. from anyone would be appreciated.

Hello Stuart. Yes, according to Flight Directory of British Aviation 1970, Dennis served in 630 and 617 squadrons. 617 was the Dam Busters but I do not know if Dennis was involved in that operation.

Interesting to note that a few of us older members got on our bikes - no pun intended - and positioned them on track to Blackbushe. The anticipation of what was to be seen there kept those, then young legs, pumping away despite the weather (not a quote from the 'Famous Five!). Back in the fifties/sixties when Health and Safety, security, compensation based society etc were not issues of first consideration aviation enthusiasts enjoyed access to a plethora of aircraft with character together with characters who were interested in developing aviation and independent airlines. Blackbushe made those things available to enthusiasts - and enhanced the health of air minded young people. I wish 'The Forum' and 'Air Day' every success. 'The Forum' has given me a great deal of pleasure (again not 'Famous Five'). Thank you Peter.

Just had a peek at the BB Memories (merged) Archives and was struck by the posting on 8 January 2012 re G-AOPL P.40 Prentice 1, first 15 min flight and following posts> departure to South Africa. I recorded this aircraft, owned by a T. D. Newman at the time, at Biggin on 14 September 1963. I had a fifteen minute flight on 28 July 1964- 4 bob at the time - at Rochford, in same type G-APJB which is now based at Coventry - RAF reg. VR259 - under the wing of Air Atlantique. Has this aircraft ever visited Blackbushe?
