Caught inbound to Blackbushe yesterday, 03 July, 2020, the expanse of Blackbushe Airport..to the left owned by and operated as an airport, to the right owned by a well known car auctioneering concern. On the left the Airport would like to build some hangars, permission was not forthcoming for almost six decades, then at last it came, but now once again thanks to extraordinary bureaucracy that hard fought permission has been taken away.. Last year the Airport received permission from the Planning Inspectorate to develop the site, but Hampshire County Council intervened and overturned what we had waited 60 years for...and now we wait yet again. On the right the burgeoning car auction business expands seemingly relentlessly. Both sides are subject to Common Land restrictions, one side adheres to the constraints - the other does not seem to care... More questions than answers perhaps? More photos waiting for tomorrow's "Photo of the Day"..... PB

It would be ironic should the income derived from one part of the airport drive the action against the other side!

It would be ironic should the income derived from one part of the airport drive the action against the other side! Wouldn't that be ironic? In this day and age who does one trust...........?

To give some context everything this side of the nearest hangar (the ex Air Hansons) ones is Common land. I doubt it has planning permission as a car park, and it certianlly creates loads of rubbish. Yet locals don't seem to be at all bothered by BCA but a few foam at the mouth when the airport is mentioned. It is a strange world!

Thanks Rob, our world is indeed strange - no less so than the approach toward the potentially valuable asset of Blackbushe Airport taken by local bodies...
The 'vocal point' of the above photo was the relentless spread of motor vehicles being stored on Common Land and the lack of any particular soundbites emerging from those who possess the extraordinary ability to see into the future warning that the Airport would become an eyesore/industrial park if Common Land restrictions were relaxed. The silence surrounding the mass car parking is deafening, but as you say, breath the word 'airport' and......!!
With the downturn that is going to go hand in hand with the Covid pandemic it must be hoped that the local bureaucracy will have a turn of face and welcome the Airport's plans to enhance the Airport's viability, provide new jobs, and support their local economy. If not..why not?
