During the current 'lockdown' period the route to hope and the future is suffering from numerous hold-ups along the way.
Today, however, reading North East Hampshire MP Ranil Jayawardena's 'Point of View' in today's local paper indicates thought being given to the South East's future transport plans. General Aviation, despite being a valuable contributor to our national GDP to the tune of some £3billion per annum, gets no mention. Now there's a surprise!!
"Transport is at the heart of a better future for the South East. Better for the 7.5m people who live and work here, better for business and better for our planet". A key sentence to whet the appetite on their new online details.
Facts and figures regarding the south-east grab the attention, this video conveys an encouraging message for the South-East.. transportforthesoutheast.org.uk/
The post Covid 19 world is going to be somewhat different regarding statistics, but hopefully the South-East will kick start itself and head for prosperity in the minimum of time. Air transport will recover and with it the need for new pilots will continue, business will maybe more than ever discover the benefits of flexibility and economy that General Aviation and business flying provide. But, airfields will be needed and plans for the South East only seem to realise the existence of Heathrow and Gatwick.
Blackbushe remains perfectly placed to serve the needs of flying training and business flying. Located central of a great wheel of commerce stretching out say on a 30 mile radius from the Airport, accessed on the main London Southampton A30 trunk road and five minutes from the M3's Junction 4a. The South East plan includes a new link joining the M3 and the M4. J3 of the M3 will lead to J10 of the M4. Automatically Blackbushe's surface benefits take another boost!!
Ranil is asking for persons who wish to become involved in the South East Plan consultation to contact him. There is no doubt that General Aviation operators/aerodromes should make a presence in these discussions, it could be a life saving exercise!
Reading through the content of their website transportforthesoutheast.org.uk/ there comes a strange irony to mind. Hampshire County Council have indulged in legal proceedings to prevent Blackbushe Airport from redevelopment being willing to risk maybe hundreds of thousands of pounds of OUR money in the process. In so doing they block the path of ongoing pilot training and a vital doorway to the business aviation community whose bottom line is to improve and assist our national productivity - imperative as and when we come from our lockdown status seeking the avenues along which will lie our future well being and prosperity.
General Aviation and its constituent operators perhaps need to put a foot in the door at Transport for the South East? Maybe, hopefully, they already have?
....... nothing like today for planning for tomorrow.
