All quiet on the western front as seen from the trenches in Bristol. However, I took a walk across the Downs this morning and was amazed at what some people consider to be social distancing. It's rather like the 'how big was the fish you caught' scenario - or worse: why is your car so throaty, Sir! There are loons on the ground as well, talking of which....nagh!

All well on the "Loon front" hopefully rocky14?
Seeing as this 'channel' is focused on Covid and its consequences a thought on Government projects and expenditure in the light of record and mammoth demands on the public purse as HMG keeps the country afloat by supporting businesses and furloughed employees with huge sums of money.
HS2 has been a thorny issue for a long while with much debate as to the merits of brand new rail system between London and Birmingham and eventually further north... Reading a report by the Institute of Economic Affairs Head of Transport he says, “The economic case for HS2 was always weak. With the country in the midst of a Covid-19 induced economic downturn, the cost of this rail project – predicted to reach a mammoth £106 billion – is simply unjustifiable. At a time of crisis, the government should not be spending taxpayers’ money on deeply unpopular vanity projects that offer very limited value for money.”
So says the IEA. A far lesser sum would have saved our leading UK regional airline from going under, a company not just going to Birmingham but adjoining the whole UK, a service of immense value to so many, individuals and businesses. FlyBe's rescue would have been far greater value for money I would have thought, especially as it was a current and living business rather than a concept that is billions of pounds and years away from reality... Covid 19 will have much to answer for when the UK balance sheets are up for analysis?

Star gazing..Not too sure how valuable this will prove after last night's poor showing of the "Starlink" satellite stream..But, looks like the next fly-by over southern England (at a civilised time) will be 22APR at 21.34 Local Time, or 04.04 on the morning of 22APR. Info from tracking site. Venus will be very bright at 21.30 if nothing else proves to be!!

I counted 26 and they will still coming when I went back inside at about 21.10 (I believe there are 40 in the stream). An amazing sight that can be viewed without leaving home. More amazing to think that they can be launched and then lined-up in orbit in such a perfect line.

It's 'Ironic' oil's so cheap but there's nobody about to enjoy it! 'A Bitter Little Pill'. At least Germany is beginning to surface - our curve is beginning to cross that of Italy. No blame, no politics - keep safe all!

Another fruitless session in the garden waiting for the 21.34 Starlink satellites to pass overhead. Plenty of stars, Venus blazingly bright but me no see Mr Musk's Starlink show.. Anyone else catch it? I'll try again for the 23.10 fly by..
