I know "Common Sense" has been mentioned on the Forum with regard to the airfield's future, today one of our Members sent me this 'farewell' to good old common sense..
Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend by the name of Common Sense who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such value lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, and that life isn't always fair.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not kids, are in charge).
His health began to rapidly deteriorate when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate, teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch, and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.
It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student, but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.
Finally, Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.
Common Sense finally gave up the ghost after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot, she spilled a bit on her lap, and was awarded a huge settlement.
Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason.
He is survived by two stepbrothers, My Rights and Ima Whiner.
Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still know him pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.
Seems to ring a few bells... PB

Evening "Ex"..... Welcome to the "chat"zone, just you and me so far... One of our illustrious members sent the above earlier today, and it's hard to disagree with the sentiment.. No 'hidden messages', just a reflection! Hopefully other members might feel like adding whatever they wish to bring up?

Ok, relieved to hear there was nothing more undesirable behind your reflective mood!
Common sense does indeed sometimes lacking in our world of red tape and sometimes needless rules and regulations.
Continuing on the theme of common sense decisions, I guess we are now 2 months (out of 3) into the period during which objections could be raised to the deregistration?

Thanks "Ex"... Your sense of time is impeccable, you're right, the ticking clock and all that....
I've nothing to add to your question, just quietly waiting..

I wonder if there have been any objections filed as yet re the Commons Inquiry result and whether there have been any preliminary discussions with Hampshire CC re planning for the hangars etc., On one occasion I recall some years back speaking to one of the planning officers, re similarly building hangars beside the A30, and being told that the best option was to make sure that they blended in as much as possible with the airport grass and to construct them in green cladding! I wonder what the current requirements might be! Stuart.

Having read the latest on N264DB today I don't recall any CO detectors in the light aircraft I flew or in which I was a passenger. Worrying thought!

Pretty much every light aircraft I ever flew had one - usually stuck to the instrument panel or a window frame.
