Morning, interesting quiz, was thinking B-29 but the Confederate Air Force example was always silver and didn't have split flaps. Is this a multi engine type? It is the camouflage that puzzles me.

Er when I googled 'Confederate Air Force' it came up with 'Commemorative Air Force' so the PC brigade are at work. Next thing you know they'll be taking down all the statues of Gen Robert E Lee. What's that? They've already started? I've only seen the one in New Orleans which is situated near 'The Museum of the Confederacy'; wonder what they'll re-name that?

Morning Rob..Interesting answer!! So that's the B-29 ruled out is it?? We still await a definite statement as to what it is, and it is still flying! This bird had a couple of engines either side to answer your question.

I'm basing it on the fact that the aircraft has a camouflaged upper wing and 'Fifi' has never had that. Consolidated Privateer? They had a big bubble on the fuselage. Always one of those 'might have visited Blackbushe' types, like the B-29.

I think I can remember a photo of one at Blackbushe in POTD, so that would disqualify it.

You guys..c'mon!! Meanwhile the 'Mouth from the South' has another emergency dental appointment as pain levels reach way into the stratosphere..the photo was taken 11 October, 1992. Back in my days with Northwest Airlines when we sponsored B-24 Liberator "Diamond Lil's" trip to the UK. Following a competition we ran to win a trip to Minneapolis and then on to the Confederate Air Force Air Show at Midland, Tx.,the prize including a flight in Diamomd Lil who by then had returned to the USA. I had the not unpleasant task of accompanying our winners on the trip... Sadly Diamond Lil developed a crack in her landing gear necessitating a 'change of equipment'...
I'll reveal the answer when I return from my friend the dentist, If I return... Might even run another quiz photo with a bit of aeroplane on view?
...Ouch....

It's been the Commemorative Air Force for over ten years! It was changed pretty much for the reasons you have given!

Right, back with a massive antibiotic boost to nip the thing that's nipping my mouth - the dreaded and I might say painful "dry socket" when the extraction fails to form a clot and the resultant hole down to the jawbone becomes infected..only six days since the procedure, but be so glad when things settle down!!! Hopefully I'll be operational for the morning's aviation appointment at a nearby airfield..??
Meanwhile as no correct answers have been tendered with regard to the POTD quiz, the answer will be revealed here around 21.00LT...must say the entries did brush very close to the right answer..Rob.
