"Photo of the Day"
24/11/24
Just a month and Santa will be making his rounds, where'd the year go?? Time is indeed a funny and scary thing...
Go back to this day in 1939, I personally can't, and you'll find that on this day BOAC were formed from the merger of Imperial Airways and the original British Airways..
A coming together that in due course made scenes like this Canadair aircraft quite the norm at Blackbushe. While BOAC reached across the world Blackbushe provided an excellent crew training environment not to mention a very valuable alternate when the aerodrome at Hounslow vanished in the fog.
The majestic and powerful sounding DC-7..
Ssshhh, it's the Whispering Giant.
..and the very beautiful DH Comet. Again Blackbushe provided a perfect location although certain members of the local population did not totally agree when Comets were indulging in night circuit flying. Her four Ghost engines would have been hard to miss and all circuits were flown to the north of Blackbushe..Night flying was withdrawn accordingly, although perhaps Blackbushe was the first commercial airport to receive complaints about jet operations?
Another first for 24th November was the first flight of the Fokker F-27 in 1955 although it was until somewhat more recent times that the F-27 was seen at Blackbushe. We parked this Busy Bee example on runway 14/32 during one of our busy Farnborough Weeks at Blackbushe.. Note how the area looked before being taken over by Mother Nature's ambitions.
Another Farnborough Week visitor full of enthusiasts. This City Hopper F-27 PH-SAD invites you to view the eastern end of Blackbushe as it too was becoming lost to Mother Nature's hands.
That's it for today, warm, wet and windy again, but 15C at 0700 was very welcome!
