Re Fairoaks Airport
Thank you for your letter dated 28th November.
I was interested to hear of your proposal for the retention and redevelopment of Fairoaks Airport, part of which lies within the Runnymede & Weybridge constituency.
The network of General Aviation airfields is a vital strategic national resource and any proposals which would result in the loss of such a resource should be scrutinised very closely. Any proposal which will strengthen the resilience of GA airfields – especially one which creates additional skilled jobs and fosters business growth – would generally be welcomed.
I do not believe that my constituents would support a proposal for large scale housing development on the airfield site and I am not aware of any "very special circumstances" that would justify such developmetn in the Green Belt. The Draft Local Plans for Surrey Heath and Runnymede Borough Councils make the necessary provision for the new housing allocations across the boroughs.
I would be grateful if you would keep me up to date with this proposal as it progresses. I will also discuss your proposal – and the competing proposal for housing development – with Runnymede Borough Council at the earliest opportunity.
