Attended the Farnborough Airport Consultative Committee meeting yesterday. A few notes that might be of interest..
The Farnborough Air Show 'dynamic display flying zone' as I call it has moved to the west of the airfield so as to remain in line with the latest CAA display regulations. Dynamic referring to the flying flame throwers, the more ear friendly acts such as The Blades will continue their routines over the airfield where nature intended. No doubt noise complaints will move west accordingly? Memories of the fifties at Farnborough with new jet designs doing their thing over the crowd, sonic bangs, etc must be forgotten..
Airspace changes. The CAA have given the month of July as the time they will make their decision regarding Farnborough's bid for their own controlled air space. Apparently the CAA's promise is a rolling action where it rolls from month to month. Time will tell!
EGLF traffic movements JAN thru JUN this year are 17% up YoY. Credited to Luton making business aviation slots ever more hard to secure as it goes more "commercial airline", a degree of opportunism from the business world taking advantage of markets undergoing a bit of BREXIT confusion, and Northolt's irregular operating hours. Seems that the predicted period of closure of Northolt to GA this year has been deferred to 2019. However, their GA availability is subject to published hours during the day, a shortage of military ATC staff being to blame.
May 25 this year witnessed Farnborough's record number of bizz movements with 188 flights..
EGLF has been voted the Number One business aviation facility outside North America. Can't recall who voted, but not a surprising result..
The new ESSO pipeline from Fawley to Heathrow was discussed. Running close to EGLF it was suggested a link to the airfield would be good to reduce the number if fuel tankers supplying their jet fuel. ESSO have absolutely no intention of such, the line is 100% for serving LHR.
One local representative raised cncerns about the perceived noise of "propeller aeroplanes". Turns our she was referring to the delightful Piaggio 180 with its pusher props. Might sound noisy but assured it is within the PNDb limits. The same person also raised concern that 'local people were experiencing' over the larger jet movements from Farnborough. Again, all within the laid down limits.
Aviation will always have those who have to "express concern" on behalf of their local residents - while taking the very same aircraft types on holiday and leaving their noise footprint stamped on 'others'.. anyway, that about sums up the latest from EGLF.
