Ok the start of my first 'farnborough week'. For those that didn't experience these they were magical times. Until 2002 Farnborough had no room for visiting aircraft. So, from the 60's, until then military aircraft largely used Odiham, and Northolt and civil aircraft Blackbushe. Visitors arrived between around 9 and 12, the airport being closed in the afternoon, and departed from around 5pm. They were normally parked on the northern runways and very photogenic. As a schoolboy 78 was one of the awkward years (78,and 82) where the school year started the week of the show rather than the week after a sin 80 and 84, by 86 it didn't matter. i mysteriously had a tummy bug some days.

Thank you so much Rob for such brilliant records, and all from memory too...
Seriously, it's nothing far short of a miracle, this is the airport the government tried to kill in 1960. They may have injured her, but that old heart keeps beating, that old spirit still soars...

Really enjoying these look backs Rob, lots of reminders of a/c I remember seeing during the mid/late 70's when I first started frequenting the 'Bushe (as a teen on my bike from Crowthorne).
Also quite a few mentions of the first light aircraft I flew in, PA28 G-AVLH (many years before I ever thought I would get to fly similar types from the 'LK tarmac).

Hi guys am always happy to share some memories. It is funny I always thought we went to Blackbushe quite often as a kid but is was really only one a month at the most. So on the Farnborough week 1980. The school holidays played ball and I was able to enjoy the spectacle fully. It was a very different airshow from today, pretty much all the trade aircraft stayed for the public days with only a few additional aircraft for the weekend.
