Another eclectic mix again today. Some BOAC crew trainers, US Navy movements and the lovely C-46. Most interesting is Viking G-AJPH. This test bed was the first civilian registered jet in the world and was the RR Nene test bed. It was only used on a small number of passenger flights and was mostly used for experiments on civilian use of jets. It was purchased by Eagle in December 1953 and rebuilt as a standard Viking to their normal high standards. It served with the airline until broken up in 1962.

A couple of good full lofs from on this day in 1959 and 1960. Comparing the two logs shows how the impact of the impending closure had effected the commercial operators. The USN was still soldering on in the face of impending doom in just over 3 months time.

Not much of interest today. The Scimitar was probably on it's way to Culdrose for ground duties after suffering a nose wheel collapse. The Mod did use Blackbushe as a secure overnight staging post for aircraft while being shipped around the country, several being noted in the 50's.

After a day of fence repairing after yesterdays storm I can now put my feet up. Again a small offering today. Im sure the locals back in the 50's were used to Blackbushe being open 24/7? Of course you really had to feel for the patients of Yateley Cottage hospital who were almost right under the approach on Cricket hill, the hospital closed in the 70's IIRC?

Another day, another list from the past. Compared to today it was amazing how many aircraft were exported in the 40's and 50's. New Dove to India and Lincoln for Argentina and used Mossies to Israel. The B170 was actually coming the other way having served in Ecuador for a couple of years lugging oil equipment round the interior.

A bumper crop compared to [previous days! Quite a crop of Hunting Clan training flights on days past. They were somewhat a rival of Eagle and operated the African coach services in concert with Airwork. They were the first independent airline to move to LHR after Bovingdon closed to civil traffic in 1955. Of course training was banned at LHR so those flights operated from here. In 1961 they formed British United with Silver City and Airwork at Gatwick.

A bumper log today as I have included those from leap years. A few lovely USN P2V Neptunes transiting Blackbushe on this day in 58 and 59. These were regular on stop overs between deployments in the Med and coming to/from the States. The crews were quickly on their way into London as Blackbushe had no accommodation for visiting crews. They were put up at the USN HQ in London and normally returned after a few days R&R in the city.

Well here we are in a new month, weather same as the old month! The Miles Aerovan was a type from Blackbushe's early life. Aircontractors operated the bulbous beauties in 1947-48 and a few others tried their hand with the type. G-AILM was unsold following Miles collapse and stored and used for spares. It moved to Blackbushe with Silver City in late 51 and was rebuilt using parts from JXK. JXK was one of the few completed by handley page after Miles's collapse, most were scrapped. It was w/o in a heavy landing 3/12/50 at Woodley. The resultant 'bitsa' ended up in Greece where it was w/o in 1956.
