A brief view of the 1977 Blackbushe Air Festival. Missed all the heavies, but great to see something of past endeavours!

We did what we could to rescue Blackbushe based DC-6, G-APSA, from the breakers.. Red Bull had substantially greater buying power, recovered an aged DC-6 and flew her home. Today she is the immaculate Red Bull DC-6. Happily, G-APSA has found her way to be preserved elsewhere, but sadly not at Blackbushe..

We should remember that Britavia and others were involved in the 'Hungarian Airlift' at Blackbushe besides Eagle. The Viking G-AMYV was an Air Kruise aircraft - as seen, flying in its own livery (for the passenger division of Silver City), under the wing of British Aviation services (Britavia), the company for which Silver City was a subsidiary. A very small world in those days! But, weren't they optimistic days and the aircraft so memorable.

Our nation was recovering from the post war slump and massive expenditure by the Government to protect us from a nasty invader... So many air transport enterprises in pursuit of getting a fair grip on the rock face of air routes generously gifted to the post war State supported wings.. With regard to Eagle and Hungary in 1956, HB flew numerous trips at the company's expense Blackbushe-Budapest-Blackbushe to bring out those who were escaping Soviet violence.... It was an absolute joy to have several as our guests at Blackbushe's 75th in 2017 and for them to meet Harold Bamberg face to face... PB
