The early days of big jet global operations, a BOAC Comet at Blackbushe on one of the many crew training sorties conducted at Blackbushe by our long haul state carrier of the time.

Anacostia R5D from its Washington DC base... Blackbushe based R5D, a good idea as to life on the apron at Blackbushe on 'just another day'... Meanwhile in the air, Blackbushe based Hermes of Airwork poses for an air to air with Ron Francis of Camberley. Being so close to the home of the British Army, Blackbushe supported large numbers of troop flights, either para dropping or travel to far off lands. A foggy day at Heathrow - a busy one at Blackbushe!

A couple of photos taken when Silver City Airways still had an operati ons base here. These were taken in 1954 and 1955 respectively.

Pity the pics have obscured some of the text. Not sure how you did that?

I wanted to have a larger size for these photos but am not familiar with the system here. Perhaps I should have put the text underneath anyway. It was to say that this was during the time that Silver City still had an operations base and hangar at Blackbushe.

My first post, and therefore it may need relocating to a more appropriate section. I edit a web site based on memories of life at the, now demolished, ‘Arborfield Army Apprentices School & Beyond’. The beyond stretches to include Blackbushe, a short march away, and from where many of us flew off to foreign postings, myself included. I have put together an article which, by kind permission of P.B., includes some of his Blackbushe photos. Peter thinks it may be of interest to Forum members here but I have my doubts so it’s the ‘Marmite’ question again. There is but one way to find out…….. The article is ‘Air Trooping from Blackbushe’. It is contained in a section ‘Troop Transports’ under the link ‘Blackbushe Air Trooping’. The index page for that section can be accessed from the abbreviated link below. tinyurl.com/jkzxhahI rest my case. Trevor 52A.
